The Flood
A poem by Queen Tran ’18
I was laying there
In that twilight state
Being awake
And asleep
Suddenly
The rain came
Heavy rain
The rhythmic pounding
Of the rain on the tin roof
Mesmerized,
Carried away
And holding me under
The wind blew
Through the broken pieces of my heart
It scattered the unforgettable smell of him
The wind through my heart
Blew all my fear
And loneliness
That I have held, kept, and tortured
For so long
Moaning crickets
In the middle
Of noon
They seemed to tell a story
Of the place where
I was a little girl
Dancing in the rain
With my grandpa
