Scholastic Art Awards

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running initiative supporting student achievement in the visual and literary arts. Students from across the United States, U.S. Territories, and Canada participate, with awards presented in 28 categories, including editorial cartoon, drawing and illustration, photography, mixed media, and more.

For the 2021 competition, students in the Massachusetts region entered nearly 6,000 submissions in the arts categories and more than 2,700 submissions in the writing categories. Overall in the region, students earned 1,355 Honorable Mentions, 832 Silver Keys, and 606 Gold Keys. The Gold Key is the competition’s most prestigious prize, and its recipients compete in the national competition held in New York City.

Congratulations to all of the MHS artists who bravely submitted their work for this year’s competition!
