Equestrian Opportunities Abound
Riding at three-season sport at MHS
Riding has long been a Miss Hall’s tradition, and there are plenty of opportunities for students to pursue this passion at MHS.
We offer riding as a varsity and recreational sport during all three athletics seasons, with our equestrians training at SJH Equestrian in nearby Canaan, New York. This top-of-the-line facility is a multi-disciplinary center, with indoor (140’ x 80’) and outdoor (125’ x 225’) arenas, twenty horses, stables, and plenty of turnout in surrounding paddocks. Both arenas recently received new footing and are impeccably maintained.
Practices are held four times per week with Coach Sarah Hogue, and riders of all abilities are welcome. Competition options include Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) shows, local shows, and opportunities to travel year-round for competition and higher-level riding. Non-showing and recreational riders are welcome as well!
Emily ’22 has been riding since she was about twelve years old but started riding seriously as a sophomore at MHS. “I enjoy the supportive community of everyone involved with the program,” says Emily. “Everyone is super encouraging, and if you’re having an off day, they are all willing to give you a lift. I would encourage anyone taking a sport at MHS to be bold and to try something new.”
In addition to the MHS program, there are equestrian opportunities available at riding centers, stables, and equestrian centers located within minutes of the Miss Hall’s campus. Some students have boarded their horses at nearby stables, and others have made an equestrian-related experience part of their participation in Horizons, our off-campus experiential learning program.
