This year's sale takes place from 9 to 3, Saturday, May 21

For more than twenty years, the Ninth Grade Plant Sale, held as part of the School’s nationally acclaimed Horizons program, has encouraged collaboration, creativity, leadership, and entrepreneurship among Miss Hall’s students.

The 9th-graders worked hard this year, selecting seeds, planting them, then transplanting seedlings, and they are ready to go!

This year's sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the Ara West Grinnell (Class of 1901) Greenhouse on the School’s 492 Holmes Road campus.

Shoppers are asked to please wear a mask and follow posted social distancing guidelines.

Plant Sale Prep!

The 9th Grade Horizons experience culminates each May with the Horizons Plant Sale, but the work begins much earlier than that, when students begin germinating seeds and making ceramic pots for the sale. This year, under the tutelage of Ceramics Teacher G. Grosenbeck and Horizons intern Kathryn ’22, they prepped for their pot-making by creating about 100 mugs and donated them to School for us to use in the Dining Room. By February, they were ideating with Greenhouse Manager Marian Rutledge in the Ara West Grinnell, ordering seeds, and getting their hands into some soil! Photos by Samantha Taxter ’22

This year’s sale includes several varieties of annual starts, herb starts, house plants, perennials, tomato starts, vines, vegetable starts, and biennial starts. The sale will also include past favorites, such as geraniums, and will feature artistic clay pots produced this year by Miss Hall’s ninth-graders.

Proceeds from the sale support the philanthropic efforts of the ninth-grade class.
