MHS vocalists sent the community to Winter Break in song, with the annual Holiday Concert Wednesday night. The program in Centennial Hall featured solo, duet, and group performances for an audience of students, faculty, and visitors.

The MHS Vocal Ensemble opened the concert with three holiday songs: Shiru L’Adonai, sung in Hebrew and celebrating Hanukkah; A Light of Hope, a Song of Peace, a holiday choral piece; and Medley Christmas, a Quodlibet, featuring parts from Jingle Bells, Good King Wenceslas, and Deck the Halls. The ensemble was led by Director of Music Debbie Duff and accompanied by Instrumental Music Instructor Amy Renak on piano.

The Vocal Ensemble this year features Jena Alam ’23, Molly Casey ’24, Ing Chenkulprasutr ’26, Yoyo Chen ’26, Kani Harrison ’26, Daisy Huang ’25, Hyeon Jung ’26, Bianca Kerr ’23, Sunny Liang 23, Kat Lunden ’25, co-President Emily Meng ’23, Assia Rassulkyzy ’25, Aurora Song ’26, co-President Ella Tawes ’24, Maddie Tillem ’24, Amy Xiong ’25, and Nico Zhou ’23

Fernanda Morais Laroca ’23, accompanied by Ms. Duff on piano, followed with a solo performance of The Music of the Night, and Fernanda was followed by the duet of Molly Casey ’24 and Ella Tawes ’24, who sang Once Upon a December, also accompanied by Ms. Duff.

The evening’s final songs came from Grace Notes, the School’s a cappella group, featuring Molly Casey ’24, Kitty Chen ’24, co-Head Shirley Dong ’23, Willa Dowling-Paul ’25, Honey Fields ’24, Belle He ’23, Iva Knezevic ’24, Fernanda Morais Laroca ’23, and co-Head Yolanda Zhang ’23.

The group performed Winter Wonderland and All I Want for Christmas Is You, then the lights in Centennial Hall were dimmed, and the show closed with A Hanukkah Celebration and O! Holy Night! sung by candlelight.
