Are you a Blue or a Gold?
Everyone at MHS is assigned a team color, blue or gold. It’s an MHS tradition that dates back to the late 1920s and a way to generate some friendly competition within and between classes.
Don’t worry if you don’t know. The spirited members of the Athletic Association will let you know.
Everyone at MHS is assigned a team color, blue or gold. It’s an MHS tradition that dates back to the late 1920s and a way to generate some friendly competition within and between classes. And, if you’ve ever been to a schoolwide meeting where someone mentions Blue or Gold, you’ll know why!
Athletic Association members include the A.A. co-Heads, Blue and Gold team captains, and Blue and Gold representatives from each class. They help the Director of Athletics organize interscholastic and intramural sports, and they promote school spirit by organizing a number of contests and special events throughout the year.
One of the regular fun activities is recognizing the Athlete and Fan of the Week. Each week, A.A. members announce these awards at Community Meeting, noting the extra effort on the part of deserving athletes and the support of their MHS fans.
Blue/Gold Days feature contests among students, faculty, and staff, with points from these and other contests accumulating during the year. The team with the most points at the end of the year wins the Madge Buerger Blue/Gold Cup. The Association also organizes frequent “Spirit Days,” during which students are encouraged to support MHS athletic teams, and “Spirit Weeks,” with more fun contests.
Go Blue! Go Gold!
